The New Menu Is Here, And A Few Dishes Deserve More Fuss
Our new menu is here, and we’ll be honest, there are a few dishes on it that we don’t think people are making enough noise about yet.
First up, Char Sui.
Char Sui never seems to be done quite right in the UK. It’s often too dry, too sweet, or just missing that proper sticky, savoury depth that makes it so good when it’s done well.
So we wanted ours to actually have a bit of respect for the dish. Sweet, sticky, rich, full of flavour and properly satisfying. It’s one of those dishes that should get far more attention than it does.
We’re not saying it quietly either. If you’re coming to The Yan and you want something with big flavour, order the Char Sui.
Then there’s the Rum Baa Baa.
Sticky rum-glazed Herdwick lamb belly, quinoa salad, pickled pineapple and garlic and mint yoghurt. We know it sounds a bit different. Maybe even a bit too different for an old sheep farm in Grasmere. But it works.
The lamb is rich, fatty and properly satisfying. The pineapple cuts through it. The yoghurt brings it back down. It’s one of those dishes that sounds like a lot written down, then makes complete sense once you’re eating it.
And then we’ve got the Schnitzel Caesar.
This is for anyone who likes the idea of a Caesar salad, but also wants tea. Golden chicken schnitzel, gem lettuce, anchovies, crispy chorizo, parmesan, croutons, Caesar dressing and a runny poached egg.
It’s fresh, crunchy, salty, rich and still feels like a proper meal. A hearty Yan salad, basically. Not one of those salads where you’re hungry again by the time you’ve got to the car.
As always, all our dishes are freshly made in-house, cooked to order and our produce is sourced locally wherever possible. Nothing overcomplicated. Just proper food, cooked with care, on an old sheep farm in the heart of the Lake District.
So if you’re looking for somewhere to eat in Grasmere, somewhere relaxed after a walk, somewhere dog-friendly, or just somewhere serving food with a bit of thought behind it, come and try the new menu.
And seriously, don’t sleep on the Char Sui.
