The Yan Is Coming To Grasmere Lakeland Sports and Show 2026

Published on Aug 24, 2026

If you're looking for a fun activity to do in the Lake District, coupled with some good grub, we've got the perfect day out for you! The Grasmere Lakeland Sports and Show is back for another year, and for the first time ever, it's completely free to book your ticket. The perfect community event for families, adventurers, and anyone looking to try something new.

Sports Events

Grasmere Lakeland Sports and Show combines traditional sports events with more modern approaches, giving you a variety of options to spectate or participate in. It's a lively atmosphere and you can really feel the community spirit, which is partly why we love being able to help provide the delicious food on the day.

The main sporting events you don't want to miss out on are:

  • Fell running

  • Wrestling

  • Hound racing

There are also fun children's events, so the whole family can get involved. These events are open to kiddos as young as 5 years old, but there's a lot more to keep you entertained if you don't fancy entering the sports events.

Dog Shows

The dog shows are definitely something to make sure you don't miss if you want to explore something new. With what may be one of the largest dog shows in the North of England, this fun and relaxed show is open to all dogs of any size. If you're a dog lover and want to learn more, there is usually a relaxed and informative commentary throughout the show.

This event can be enjoyed by everyone, and we look forward to popping along and watching entries from owners and dogs with both no experience and those with a history of show success. Please be aware that the judges may ask you to do a short run with your pup, but that's as complex as it gets from our previous experience!

Entertainment

This year has one of the best line-ups we've seen so far, and we can't wait to see all of the amazing entertainment. With Drum Nation shows and interactive circus events, there are options for the whole family to get involved.

The headline acts are:

  • Circus Avago

This is a rare and fun opportunity to try all things circus tricks! From walking the tightrope, riding unicycles, juggling, diabolo, plate spinning, stilts, Chinese ribbons and much more in this non-stop session for all ages. We'll absolutely be stopping by this one.

  • Drum Nation

This local Cumbrian community-led samba drumming collective has performed globally, and always brings the energy and carnival spirit. We've heard they were so popular last year that the organisers couldn't resist inviting them back again this year.

  • Wonder Wheelers

Weird and wacky bicycles, unicycles, penny farthings, bendy bikes, tall bikes, mini-bikes and mini-tandems, eccentric wheelers, circus bikes, balance trikes, fun wheels, pedal-gos and more. They also have a challenge to ride a bike that steers the opposite direction to the handlebars, so you can get involved.

  • Sam the Scam

This is not as scary as it sounds, as we're sure Sam is only there to amaze. From clever sleight of hand, comedy and a classic carnival booth, this act is a great way to laugh with your friends and see some classic carnival tricks up close.

We hope to see you there, and that you'll come by and see us on the day too.

Food and Stalls

Every year there is never a shortage of yummy food and locally run stalls to look forward to exploring, and we're happy to be back again for another year.

After a full day of dog shows, fell running and excellent entertainment, you often need a hearty meal to fill your belly and cosy up with before heading home. Whether you've been cheering, enjoying, or competing, our stall is offering our famous, home-cooked Shepherd's Pie. Made locally and always with fresh ingredients, our Shepherd's Pie is a delicious way to round off your day out.

You can find us with the other local stalls — just look out for our classic Yan logo. If you still can't find us, just follow the smell of delicious Shepherd's Pie!

Securing Your Spot

To make sure that you get a spot on the day, it's a good idea to book yourself a ticket. Even though they're free, you still need one on the day to get into the event.

See you there!
