Tour de France 2027 in the Lake District: watch Stage 2 from The Yan, Grasmere

Published on Jul 2, 2026

On Saturday 3 July 2027, the Tour de France Grand Départ will roll from Keswick to Liverpool on Stage 2, travelling south through the Lake District via Thirlmere, Grasmere, Rydal Water and Windermere.

And yes, it is coming right past Broadrayne Farm.

Not vaguely nearby, not “somewhere in the Lakes” but right along our bit of the A591! With the world’s biggest bike race charging through the valley outside The Yan.

It is fair to say we are already a little bit excited.

The Tour de France weekend that was made for The Yan

We spent years living and working in the French Alps, running chalets, feeding hungry skiers and generally learning that the best days outside deserve brilliant food, wine and somewhere properly warm to come back to afterwards.

So a Tour de France stage through Grasmere, past our farm, feels less like an excuse to throw a party and more like the universe handing us our dream brief.

Think proper French mountain influences, generous plates, raclette cheese doing exactly what raclette cheese should do, and ski-slope salads big enough to keep you going through a full day of roadside cheering. There will be French wine worth lingering over, plenty of good bread and a few very Yan ways of making a massive sporting occasion feel relaxed, welcoming and properly delicious.

This is not one we are going to quietly acknowledge with a yellow napkin and move on.

Stay in Grasmere and watch the Tour de France from the route

The Yan at Broadrayne is on the Tour de France Stage 2 route through Grasmere, between Keswick and Ambleside. For anyone looking for Tour de France 2027 accommodation in the Lake District, it means you can make a proper weekend of it rather than spend race day figuring out where the car is, whether the road is open or where on earth you are sleeping afterwards.

We will have Dinner, Bed and Breakfast Tour de France packages available across our hotel bedrooms, luxury pods and self-catering cottages.

Arrive, settle in, eat brilliantly, watch the action and head back to a real bed afterwards. No camping chair packed in the boot for three days. No sad service-station tea. No washing up.

Race-weekend stays will have a two-night minimum, with detailed road closures and access arrangements still to be confirmed by the event organisers. This is going to be one of the biggest sporting weekends the Lake District has ever hosted, so staying put somewhere on the route is going to make life much easier.

Roadside viewing, front-field picnics and a proper day out

We have been there for a fair few French mountain stages over the years, watching the whole place turn yellow (and of course lots of red spots!), the roads fill up and the atmosphere build for hours before the riders appeared in a blur, it is one of those sporting moments that gets right under your skin. To have even a little piece of that energy coming through Grasmere, past the farm we now call home, feels pretty special.

So we are working on plans for a carefully managed viewing set-up from the front field, to embrace the race, subject to final safety and access arrangements. The aim is simple: a brilliant place to watch the peloton fly past without needing to make a mad dash for the car the second it has gone.

There will also be picnic options for guests who want to settle in near home base, plus packed-up versions for anyone planning to hike to higher ground and find their own Tour de France viewing spot above Grasmere.

A good picnic, a decent bottle, a flag, a cowbell and one of the best views in the country feels like a fairly strong way to spend a Saturday.

Exact viewing arrangements, menus, picnic details and timings will be announced once the official event plans are released.

French mountain food meets the Lake District

This weekend has our name all over it.

Expect a menu inspired by our chalet years, but cooked the Yan way. Raclette. Golden potatoes. Big crunchy mountain salads. Proper sharing dishes. French wine. Great local ingredients. The sort of food you want after a day outside, whether you have spent it riding, hiking, waving a flag at the roadside or simply sitting in the sunshine pretending you are in the Alps.

There may also be a few yellow-themed moments. We cannot promise restraint.

Bring your bike and ride the route afterwards

Watching the pros is one thing. Getting out on the roads afterwards, at your own pace and with considerably more cake stops, is another.

The Yan has secure coded dry bike storage, a bike wash and a basic repair kit, so you can bring your own wheels and use Grasmere as a base for a proper Lake District cycling break.

Once the race has moved on, you can ride some of the same beautiful roads through Thirlmere, Grasmere, Rydal and Windermere, or take a gentler route and stop somewhere nice before your legs realise what you have signed them up for.

Watch this space

The Tour de France only comes to Britain once in a blue moon. The fact that Stage 2 is travelling straight through the Lake District, via our farm, feels like something we should probably make the most of.

We are still finalising the full extravaganza, but it is safe to say this will be a big one.

Tour de France 2027 packages, menus, picnic plans and booking details will be announced here first. Keep an eye on our socials, join the mailing list and start thinking about where you keep your cowbell.

Allez allez. The Tour is coming to Grasmere.
