A Taste of Christmas at The Yan
Wondering what Christmas dinner looks like around here?
We’re still busy putting the finishing touches to our 2026 Christmas menu, but if you’d like a little taste of what to expect, have a nosey at what we served last year.
Christmas Day at The Yan is never about a tiny turkey dinner dressed up to look fancy. It’s five courses, plenty of proper Cumbrian produce, a few family favourites given the Yan treatment and a pudding course that requires a little commitment.
After all, if there’s one day of the year when you should leave the table absolutely stuffed, it’s Christmas Day.
Last year's Christmas Day feast
To get things started
A selection of canapés
A little throwback
We went properly retro with an 80s classic – Parma ham and melon to get the festivities underway.
A Keighley family favourite
King prawn cocktail, given a little Yan twist.
The main event
Turkey breast filled with stuffing and wrapped in cured ham, served with pigs in blankets, braised turkey leg and stuffing & cranberry fritters.
And because nobody wants three carefully positioned vegetables on Christmas Day, there was also carrot purée, roast potatoes, creamy mash, sprouts with bacon, red cabbage, green beans, roasted carrots, bread sauce, cranberry sauce and plenty of gravy.
Then came pudding...
Not one. Not two.
An entire assiette of mini Christmas puddings:
Mince pie strudel with brandy & orange custard, a brandy snap basket filled with plum compote and poached pear, a little slice of indulgent chocolate log and a shot glass of sherry trifle.
Or, for those firmly on Team Cheese, three British cheeses with our own bread crisps, fig chutney and apple.
And for the veggies...
Definitely no sad nut roast lurking at the side of the plate.
Last year's vegetarian Christmas feast started with our selection of canapés, followed by a veggie take on that 80s classic – melon with carrot cured in soy and miso.
Next came French onion soup baked with a Gruyère-topped crouton.
For the main event, red lentils, sage, roasted parsnips, spinach, leeks and dried cranberries were wrapped in puff pastry and served with wholegrain mustard sauce, braised red onion and stuffing & cranberry fritters – alongside all the roast potatoes, creamy mash, sprouts, red cabbage, green beans, roasted carrots, bread sauce, cranberry sauce and gravy you'd expect from a proper Christmas dinner.
And yes, the full pudding assiette – or British cheese – followed too.
Christmas 2026
This year's menu is still being created, so the dishes above won't necessarily be what we're serving in 2026.
But they should give you a pretty good idea of what Christmas Day at The Yan involves.
Come hungry.
