A Taste of New Year at The Yan

Published on Aug 26, 2026

New Year Food at The YanWondering what New Year’s Eve tastes like around here?

We’re still busy putting together our 2026 New Year’s Eve menu, but while the kitchen gets creative, we thought we’d give you a little taste of what we served last year.

New Year’s Eve at The Yan is a proper occasion. A long evening, plenty of courses, brilliant Cumbrian produce, a few Yan twists along the way and absolutely no need to rush anywhere afterwards.

Then, when midnight rolls around, it’s fizz in hand and outside to watch the fireworks light up Grasmere.

Stretchy trousers encouraged.

Last year’s New Year’s Eve feast

Bloody Mary Gazpacho
Bloody Mary gazpacho with king prawn.

Pie
A little shot of shepherd’s pie made with slowly braised Grasmere Herdwick lamb, cheesy mash and cured ham.

Scandinavi-Yan
A slice of Yan focaccia topped with slow-cooked Cumbrian venison, mushroom purée, pickled red cabbage and blackcurrant & ginger chutney.

Salmon Croquette
Yan-smoked salmon and béchamel croquette with beetroot pesto, fresh horseradish, pickled candied beetroot and trout roe.

Lamb Kofta
Herdwick lamb kofta with braised fennel, tzatziki, crumbled feta and balsamic glaze.

Something refreshing...
A fresh cucumber salad before we got back to the serious stuff.

Cheeky Main
Seared beef cheek with creamy mash, roasted green beans, pickled silverskin onions and plenty of gravy.

And because it was New Year’s Eve, obviously we weren’t stopping at one pudding...

Jaffa Mousse
Chocolate mousse with blood orange gel, candied orange peel, sponge crumb and a chocolate shard.

Tirami-Choux
Choux bun filled with Marsala mascarpone and Carvetii coffee gelato from our pals at Three Hills, covered in chocolate sauce.

Or, if you’re firmly Team Cheese...
Three British cheeses with our own bread crisps, apple and fig chutney.

And then... midnight.

Full bellies. Full glasses.

Coats on and outside for Grasmere’s New Year fireworks, with a glass of fizz in hand as we say goodbye to one year and hello to the next.

No taxi queue. No designated driver. And, if you’re staying with us, your bed is only a short wander away.

That’s our kind of New Year.

New Year 2026

This year’s menu is still being created, so the dishes above aren’t necessarily what we’ll be serving this New Year’s Eve.

But they should give you a pretty good idea of what to expect.

Lots of courses. Lots of local produce. A few surprises. And absolutely no chance of going to bed hungry.

Whether you’re joining us for the full three-night New Year stay or just coming along for the big night itself, we’ll make sure the final meal of 2026 is a good one.

Come hungry. We’ll take care of the rest.
