What to expect

The largest of our self-catering cottages with the ability to sleep up to five people, The Woolloft is a 17th-century converted Lakeland bank barn which was originally used to store fleeces. Don’t panic though, we’ve got rid of the fleeces and instead created a thoughtfully converted property with a wealth of character features including beautiful high ceilings with beams, two thick cobblestone walls and a log-burning stove. Nestling into the mountainside and immersed in the landscape, it’s no surprise that The Woolloft has spectacular mountain views from every room. Alongside its bucket loads of charm, this beautiful dog friendly Grasmere cottage also has many home comforts, ensuring that although on holiday, you feel as if you are in a ‘home away from home’.

The Woolloft is also known as the ‘upside-down cottage’ - but in the best way possible. The upper-ground floor of the cottage is where the light and bright living spaces can be found. Floor-to-ceiling glass doors open into a spacious, characterful living room with beautiful oak beams, deep-set windows (with views galore, of course) and a log-burning stove tucked in the corner. Furnished to a very high standard with sumptuous sofas looking out over the fells, the cottage also benefits from a Smart 4K LED TV and LG Soundbar, which can also be used to play your own music or radio via an App or Bluetooth.

The living room leads through to a spacious fully-fitted, well-equipped kitchen-diner with useful extras including dishwasher, washer/dryer, filter coffee machine, fridge freezer and microwave. Although, if you fancy breakfast or dinner from our bistro either delivered to your door or within the restaurant, just book a table here.

Stone stairs, already fitted with a baby gate, lead down to two beautiful bedrooms on the lower ground floor. The first of the two bedrooms is a king-sized double bedroom and ensuite bathroom complete with bath, basin and WC. The second room can either be a twin room or super-king bedroom, depending on your requirements, again with an ensuite complete with a bath, over-the-bath shower, basin and WC. When booking, please ensure you select ‘twin beds’ during the checkout process, otherwise, a super-king will be made up. If you are bringing a fifth guest, there is space in this second bedroom for either a put-up-bed or cot, this is an extra £25.00 and can be selected under our additional extras. For those rainy days in The Lakes (or if you want a bit of peace and quiet from the rest of your group), you can enjoy a spot of telly in your bedroom, as both bedrooms come complete with a Smart TV. An extra, convenient shower room can be found down the hallway, which means limited waiting to get warm and dry after a wet Lake District walk! Crisp white linen, fluffy towels and bath sheets, and our favourite natural Pure Lake toiletries are included for all guests, as standard.

Outside you’ll find a private patio complete with a rattan dining table and chairs, and a BBQ. This lovely enclosed space enjoys the last of the setting sun with stunning views of Steel Fell, Helm Crag and beyond. The Woolloft has a parking space for one car on a hard standing next to the cottage. Parking for a second car can be made available, if requested in advance.

We know dogs love The Lakes just as much as their humans so we’ve made The Wooloft dog-friendly. The cottage is able to accommodate one dog. We supply dog towels and poo bags. Your waggy-tailed family member will also get a bag of locally made, natural doggy treats as a welcome gift.  Please bring your pet's bed, water, and food bowls with you. You can find our pet terms and conditions here, which we advise reading before booking this cottage.

A whole host of extras can be booked ready for your arrival including eggs from our ducks and hens, a bottle of Champagne, logs for your wood burner or bags of kindling. Just select your preferences and we’ll have it ready and waiting for you.

Check-in is from 3pm and check-out is before 10am.
